Bad blogger/ Small Spaces

Posted on 09 April 2010 by maisquared

I am the worst blogger everrr.

Currently, I am sitting on my couch so I thought I should attempt to blog post.

It’s a Friday night but I am soo tired for some reason..and lazy, so I am blogging. Woo

House update: Put in an offer on a short sale condo off of SoCo 2/2 977 sq ft. Pretty spacious, but I am not in love with it. I’ve put in offers on places (a lot) but most of them have been because I’ve been making concessions. In my mind I’ll be thinking  ‘Oh location is good, but the place is ’so-so’ – let’s do it!’ Or..’the place is great, but the location is sketch…-let’s do it!’ I know, bad home buyer…

So the area I live in on the East Side is very up & coming and trendy, there are these weird new lofts popping up that so I decided to take a look at an efficiency..just to see..what it would be like..walked into a one bedroom loft first, it was nice! I liked it, but it was only ok..walked to the 4th floor and saw the efficiency and I fell in love. Trust me, I was really hesitant at first because it’s under 600 sq ft., but with me going gone so much I don’t think I’d miss the space. It would force me to give up my 1/4 hoarder tendencies. The whole plan is open, the kitchen is open (and about the same size as the kitchen I currently have..GOOD for entertaining) and I just measured my bed and it would fit in this nook close to the entryway (which was probably meant to serve as a closet or office..).

What sold me one the place was the openess of it. I saw a 1/1 off of S. 1st that was bigger but it seemed so much smaller!! The deck was tiny..This place is very open. Kitchen leads to living/dining and the deck is big enough for tables, chairs (my rocking chair!!), and the best part is I get the best unobstructed view of the Austin downtown skyline + Capitol. I pictured myself drinking a glass of bubbly on evenings. I’m on the top level so no noise above me and I get easy access to the community garden on the roof. Hollaaa..more drinking up there.

The only negative is the price…for what it is, it is expensive…but it is the cheapest thing on the east side right now (that is new) and all the other condos are 2x as much (even though they are bigger). It has everything I want and if I had to weigh out the costs vs being able to walk to all my favorite places, being back to live in a bright, open place, living in the neighborhood I want..the lack of space doesn’t even make a difference to me. I’ve currently been camping out in my living room and go into my bedroom to sleep at night..I use less than 600 sq ft a day so I think I could get used to the idea! I was super anti-condo..until I saw this place and then living in a condo didn’t seem so bad.

The other negative is that I just feel bad for all parties who have had to do work on my behalf, then either I was too late jumping on a property or was outbid..waiting for a short sale has been tough but it’s even tougher when you keep looking..I know that if this offer was accepted, I could just stop looking.

Trust me, I’m in love but will banks love the fact that it’s neither Frannie Mae OR FHA approved.. ahh. We’ll see on Tuesday. My Realtor gets back on Monday. I wish today weren’t Friday..My mom, dad, realtor all think I’m crazy but in the end after all is said and done and my place is decorated the way I want it..they’ll get it.

With that sad, I know I can do so much with the space! I plan on doubling up my mortgage payments each month so I can pay it off quicker..also..I leave you with these:

My dream house (it changes every month..but for this month): See the rest here via Decor8.

My small home inspirations:

460 sq ft more here via Apartment Therapy

3-in-1!!! Bed, work, TV/storage stand

I can fit in all my shoeeess

520 sq ft Lucas’s Studio

478 sq. ft- Last year’s Small, Cool 2009 contest

My place would be bigger than all these places..exciting..now it seems so spacious haha

Oh the possibilities..trying not to get my hopes up though..there’s only ONE efficiency left so I am praying that someone gets back to me soon.

I know! It will take more planning though to efficiently use the space so I am down with a bed and my hand by down couch until I find the right pieces…the nice thing about no roommates is I don’t have to care what anyone else thinks haha

I’ve lived in smaller spaces than 600 sqft. It’s really not as small as you think!
