My lease in my awesome apartment ends April 19th. An awkward, and weird date…
I’ve listed my apt. online on craigslist because I’m thinking about extending it since I haven’t found a house/condo yet. I’m worried that if I extend it to Aug. 15th (the date that some people have replied back to me with for a possible move-out if they came and stayed here temporary) I’ll find a house before then and I’ll be effed paying a mortgage and rent for 4 months.
Normally, I would put my stuff in storage and move to Nashville for a month or two and stay with friends until a normal lease term starts but I need to be here because of my job at the Parish and I also need to be here so I can look for houses!
Do I extend until Aug? move out, put my things in storage and live in temp housing/sublet for month to month? What to do? The longer I stay here the more money I spend that is going to go towards any revamp/new furniture for my new place. Boo

Can you do month to month at the apt you’re at now? I’m thinking probably not or you would have mentioned it. Could you room with friends for a couple months while you house hunt and put things in storage?

Are you only looking at short sales? By the time you find a place, make an offer, get an inspection, closing date, etc., 4 months seems sort of reasonable.
Alternatively, you could extend to graduation time and see if there’s some turnover then. Maybe some student wants a summer sublet?

Oh that is a dilemma. Perhaps you can find a roommate just temporarily to stay with you so that if you find an house/condo they will pick up the rent but while you’re staying there you can pay half? Maybe there is someone out there who will agree to something like that. You never know. Good luck!
